Trimble Connect Labels helps Veidekke use the 3D model in production on K7 Fornebubanen
At the K7 Fornebubanen project, Veidekke and their subcontractor Armeringsservice are using Trimble Connect and the Labels extension from Construsoft to make 3D model information easier to use in production.
By presenting the information needed for the job in a simple and visual way, construction teams can use the model directly on site – without having to be BIM experts.

About the project
Fornebubanen is the new underground metro connection between Majorstuen and Fornebu. Veidekke is responsible for the K7 contract, which includes construction of the new Lysaker and Vækerø stations.
Digital models play an important role in a project of this scale. They contain detailed information about what is going to be built, but the construction workers carrying out the work need a practical way of getting to the relevant information.
A large and detailed 3D model on its own does not necessarily provide that.

Making the 3D model useful for construction teams on site
On K7, Veidekke uses Trimble Connect to make project models available to the construction team. After recieving the 3D BIM models from engineering, Veidekke enrich the model with data that is useful and needed for production.
The Labels extension from Construsoft adds a simple way of organizing and presenting model objects based on their properties.
This is particularly useful for reinforcement. A reinforcement model can contain a very large number of individual bars and position numbers.
With Labels, these can be grouped, colored and labelled directly in the 3D view.

Instead of searching through model properties or interpreting a complete reinforcement model, construction workers can quickly see which bars belong together and access the relevant information for the work they are carrying out.
The idea behind the extension is that construction workers should not need to know how to navigate a complex BIM model. The model should present the information in a way that helps them build correctly.

Enabling the non-BIM experts

For Veidekke, the Trimble Connect Labels extension helps bring the 3D model beyond the classic BIM users working on design and coordination and into the actual construction of Lysaker and Vækerø stations.

Not just rebars
Although Labels is particularly well suited for working with reinforcement, the same principle can be applied to other objects in the model:
Model properties can be used to create visual labels and groupings suited to different types of work. This makes it possible to take detailed information created earlier in the digital workflow and present it in a form that is more practical to use in production.
Extensions: Closing gaps in the digital workflow

Trimble Connect provides the platform for accessing and sharing models and project information, while extensions can add functionality for more specific workflows in production.
Construsoft's cooperation with contractors like Veidekke helps gain insight into how these tools are used on projects and where practical needs are not fully covered by standard functionality in Trimble Connect.
Labels is just one of many extensions that has been developed around these practical needs. At K7, it illustrates how small additional functions and automations can help contractors like Veidekke make digital construction accessible and useful to the whole team.

Labels is an extension for Trimble Connect developed by Construsoft to make BIM model information easier to visualize and use in construction.
By using the properties already available in the model, objects, including reinforcement /rebars and many other construction details, can be grouped, labelled and presented in ways that support the work being carried out.
