Trimble SketchUp enables project teams to contribute in 3D

Construsoft Nordics now delivers Trimble SketchUp as part of our software portfolio for the construction industry. SketchUp is well known among architects and designers, but it is also a very practical tool for contractors, engineers, project managers and site teams working in classic construction projects.

With an intuitive 3D environment, broad file compatibility and integration with Trimble Connect, SketchUp helps project teams explore construction challenges visually before they become issues on site.

Typical challenges that Sketchup can help address

Construction projects already use advanced BIM models from advanced software like Tekla Structures, and many projects rely on Trimble Connect in the the daily project workflow.

This gives project teams access to coordinated model information, but there is still often a gap between the engineers who create the models and the project team members who use them to plan and execute the work.

Project managers, site managers, supervisors and engineers often have valuable input on buildability, logistics, sequencing and site conditions. The challenge is giving these users a practical way to communicate their ideas in 3D, without requiring them to work in specialist BIM authoring tools.

How SketchUp helps

IMAGE: Trimble SketchUp also have a great iPad version where you can quickly sketch up complex geometry in 3D using an Apple Pencil.

Trimble SketchUp gives construction teams a fast and accessible way to work with their own ideas in 3D. Project managers, site managers, supervisors and engineers can use it to sketch practical input around buildability, logistics, sequencing, access, temporary works and site conditions.

Instead of describing an idea only through comments, screenshots or meeting notes, the team can quickly create a visual proposal that is easier for others to understand.

This makes it simpler to discuss alternatives, explain execution plans and align the project team before decisions are carried through to procurement or site work.

Already using Trimble Connect?

For teams already using Trimble Connect, SketchUp fits naturally into the existing workflow. SketchUp models can be shared, reviewed and coordinated together with other project information, helping the team bring practical construction input into the wider model-based process.
